The Roswell Rockets consist of Nick Marriott – double bass/vocals, John Palmer – guitar/vocals and Jamie Ash – drums/backing vocals plus guests for this Fiddlers’ first.
Nick and John first met in Glasgow in the early 1980s where they were both involved in bands from the Parklane Studio stable. They instantly became close friends and although they never played in the same bands at the same time they were both active in the thriving Glasgow music scene at that time with bands such as: The Kissing Bandits, The Sun Brothers, Love and Money, Deacon Blue, The River Detectives, The Right Stuff, The Outriders, The Beat Poets, Petted Lips, to name but a few. During that long period of involvement with bands and also whilst doing session stuff for Warner Bros., Nick always returned to Arran with many musician friends to play music in the pubs and village halls and enjoy that special, informal vibe that Arran offered. John was a frequent visitor and integral part of these many great times, which are remembered with great affection. The bands would always try and visit Nick’s old friend Nicky Ash, at Dippen Studios for recording sessions and it was there that Nicky’s son Jamie would hone his skills as a wonderful musician. Nick and John’s love of Rockabilly music was always evident and reflected in these visits to Arran so, what better opportunity than this night at Fiddlers’ to revisit some scorching tunes and “rock out”?!
